Kurt Vile - Downbound Train (Bruce Springsteen Cover)

When Philly’s Kurt Vile released Smoke Ring for My Halo back in March, I had no idea just how much I would love this album months later. I mean, I’ve listened to it a staggering amount of times, no other ‘new’ full-length release has really gotten this much playtime ‘round these parts.

There are a handful of musicians that I flip out over, not something I like to admit, but I’m pretty sure Kurt Vile is one of them. Is it his hair? Is it those long locks that get me all riled up? Maybe. I like to pretend it all has to do with his voice, though. And the way he plucks gingerly at those strings with that aaaalllllmost nasal draw. Songs that sound more like a serenade than anything.

There’s not much more to say on his new EP. Everything that stood true on Smoke Ring for My Halo has carried on to So Outta Reach, and has more or less been there before the album. I’ll keep things short and informal: It’s great.

I’ve gotta cut the romantics on this post. I’ll leave you with this:

Kurt Vile’s So Outta Reach EP is out today on Matador. Grab it here.
